The second edition of the 'OAKS' concert will take place on September 21, 2019 at the Victoria Hall in Geneva. On that occasion, Gabriela Montero will present her brand new Ensemble for the very first time. The quintet, composed of the pianist and four young South American musicians who have played with the Orchestra of the Americas, will perform during this world premiere before embarking on a European tour. Named 'ReInventions', the concert will pay tribute to J.S. Bach, whose work will inspire a musical journey in time and culture, from European baroque to contemporary Caribbean music. Indeed, after having interpreted some pieces of the great composer, Gabriela Montero will revisit the Bachian style in a new composition of her own and, of course, in passionate improvisations.

Gabriela Montero

"Montero's playing has everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power in climactic moments, soulful lyricism in the ruminative passages and, best of all, unsentimental expressivity." (Anthony Tommasini, New York Times).

The pianist Gabriela Montero’s visionary interpretations and unique improvisational gifts, recognized early on by Martha Argerich, have won her a devoted following around the world. Gabriela has played with the most prestigious orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Leipzig’s Gewandhausorchester, the Zürcher Kammerorchester, the Vienna Symphony, and the philharmonic orchestras of Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, Houston, Pittsburgh and Detroit. She was also invited to play with Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma and Anthony McGill at Barack Obama’s Presidential inauguration. In 2015, Gabriela won a Latin Grammy for her album Ex Patria, composed in response to the crisis in Venezuela, her country of birth. As an activist she has spoken and performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos and was also appointed Honorary Consul of Amnesty International.
